Sunday Storytime Challenge

Every other week, we will post a Sunday Storytime Challenge. The goal is to encourage the SU community to try new things and share out those adventures. Challenges will vary widely and can include craftiness, elevator speeches, networking, professional development and beyond!

So here is this week’s challenge!

It has been a few years since I first was inspired by Rebecca at Sturdy for Common Things to present a spontaneous Storytime. (Storytiming also had a wonderful take on this!)

Basically, there can be times when your library is flooded with people, but there is no programming going on. Perhaps you are like my library and you have LONG breaks between Storytime sessions. Why not put a sign around your neck and offer a story at 1:47 pm? Get on you intercom and invite the whole library to wiggle with you at 9:15 am! Did a fabulous new perfect-for-Storytime book just touch your hands? Go test it out on that one family that is in the building at closing!

Did you fashion a bright sign to wear on your head? Did you sing your heart out for a family that had no idea the library offered Storytimes? Make sure to come back and share with us! There are so many ways you can share:

  • Simply comment to this post!
  • Email us at
  • Tweet it out using #storytimechallenge
  • Do you have a kick-ass blog? Share your challenge story there and send us the link!

There is no concrete timeline for you to complete the challenges and they will always remain open.

We can’t wait to see what you can accomplish!
